THE COMIC THAT DARE NOT SPEAK IT'S NAME... please ask...

So my friend Laura and I were out in Leeds the other weekend after a fairly heavy night. We were both nursing a disgraceful hangover. After managing to mooch round town for a couple two hours in the baking heat without vomiting, I decided I wanted to go the local anime/comic shop.

Now this is the anime/comic shop is called 'Forbidden Planet'. You may of heard of it, you may not. If you haven't then It's a fairly cool place and you should check it out if you're ever in Leeds. Heck, there may even be a Forbidden Planet in your town. Research it.

Anyway this is the shop where, even though its all cool and geeky, everything is far too expensive, especially on my wage. It is notorious for raping my wallet. I've spent silly amounts of money here in the past, but today I only had like a tenner so I had to make do with window shopping. Laura (friend from earlier) noticed a poster advertising an independent comic fair happening near by. Sounded like something to do, so we decided to go check it out. Now by near by I mean 'all-the-way-at-the-other-side-of-town-in-the-baking-heat-with-a-killer-hangover-and-feeling-like-death-on-toast' near by.

I'm not from Leeds and don't really know the centre at all, so Laura led the way. Now I'm not overly sure just how much Laura gets the whole 'comics thing', probably not at all, so it was pretty cool of her to a. notice the poster, b. suggest we go, and c. fuel my comic obsession. She's awesome like that. She is quite clumsy though... she has a tendency to fall up stairs or injure herself while cooking...

Anyway, comic fair! Yes! We eventually found it and it was pretty cool. Small, but cool. I'd not heard of any of the artists there but it didn't really matter, most of them had been drinking all day and so the atmosphere was nice. I spent three of my remaining £5 on a comic which apparently, due to legal reasons and character name rights and ownership issues and stuff, I can't even blog about. The artist didn't even have the comic on display. It was in an envelope ominously marked 'THE COMIC THAT DARE NOT SPEAK ITS NAME.. (please ask)'.

BEST £3 COMIC EVER! so it's fairly annoying that I can't tell you more about it. I looked on the artists blog and there's no mention of it. I guess I could tell the title, minus the characters name who... oh fuck it, so long as I don't show the comic I guess it cool? Right? the comic in the ominous envelope is called...

Nope, I can't. I gave my word I wouldn't blog about it, so I kinda haven't. I'll send the guy an Email and ask. But this guys work is really good, like sweet, Innocent, hilarious, epic fun and I lol'd at each and every one of the 16 pages of this mystery work of art. Well worth £3. This is his website. Check it out, show him some love :)

So yeah, Laura's headache cleared up, mine didn't, I bought a fucking awesome comic that I can't blog about (which sucks), and then we sat in the park. Was a fun day. Glad I could share it with you.

Oh, I also bought Nirvana's 'Nevermind' album for £2.50. Never listened to any Nirvana before now. Its awesome. Deal with it.

  1. Near where I live there are sometimes comic fairs (usually about manga) and when my friends and I go, we usually take the bus that we're supposed to pick up, and we get off it where the people wearing cosplay get off it, sometimes it's not a good idea u.u but for now, we missed only a couple of times, and it's actually fun :D I like Nirvana, although I have not heard many of their songs.
